Jury awards ex-Doña Ana County employee $250,000 in hostile work environment and retaliation lawsuit

A New Mexico jury agreed that former Doña Ana County Public Works Director Jorge Granados was subjected to a hostile work environment and retaliation. The jury awarded Granados over $250,000.

Granados claims that he was retaliated against and fired in June 2010 after he became involved in a discrimination complaint that one of his employees had filed and that was allegedly being ignored by the county.

Granados said that he hopes the jury’s verdict will bring protection to current county employees, and he said that Interim County Manager Sue Padilla “brings shame to Doña Ana County and its people.”

Padilla was the subject of many of Granados’ hostile work environment and retaliation allegations.
