It’s Just Lunch USA, LLC has agreed to pay $900,000 to settle an EEOC sex discrimination lawsuit.
According to the EEOC, It’s Just Lunch, which is based in Hallandale Beach, Florida, refused to hire men as inside sales representatives and dating directors.
It’s Just Lunch is a dating and matchmaking service for professional men and women.
The EEOC also claims that It’s Just Lunch fired its HR director, Lynda Twist, in retaliation after Twist opposed the company’s alleged discriminatory hiring practices.
Twist will receive $130,000 of the $900,000 settlement amount, and the remaining $770,000 will be distributed to a group of qualified male job applicants where applied but were not hired for the inside sales representative and dating director positions
EEOC director Malcolm Medley said, “Employers cannot refuse to hire applicants based on unfounded sex stereotypes. Moreover, employees who raise legitimate concerns about their employer’s employment practices must be able to raise those concerns without fear of unlawful retaliation.”
