City of Des Plaines sued for race discrimination and harassment by former police officer

A race discrimination lawsuit has been filed against the City of Des Plaines near Chicago.

Former Des Plaines police officer John Bueno claims that former Deputy Chief Richard Rozkuszka was a bad boss who created a hostile work environment by subjecting Bueno to “unwelcome, humiliating and offensive racial slurs and anti-Hispanic comments.”

Bueno also alleges that Rozkuszka physically abused him.

Bueno claims that he reported the harassment to former Police Chief Jim Prandini in May 2011 but that Prandini did not try to stop the harassment.

Bueno was suspended from the Des Plaines Police Department on October 31, 2011 and then fired in March 2012 for alleged use of excessive force against detainees.

Bueno alleges that he was fired in retaliation for complaining about the racial harassment.
