A female investigator has filed a sex discrimination and whistle-blower lawsuit against the county and it’s prosecutor’s office.
Gabriela Nieves claims that she was subjected to a hostile work environment in retaliation for complaining about alleged discrimination in the prosecutor’s office.
Nieves complained in 2010 when four male coworkers with less experience than her were promoted to the rank of sergeant. Nieves claims that she was not promoted because she is a woman.
After she complained, Nieves alleges that she was retaliated against by being excluded from investigations and by having her county car and office space taken away. Nieves claims that she was also targeted for an internal affairs investigation that did not result in any charges being made against her.
