A former employee at Islands Tanning in Portland filed a sexual harassment and retaliation complaint in March with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.
The 18-year-old woman claims that she was sexually harassed by her bad boss, Islands Tanning general manager Matt Farmer, who told her she had to send him nude photos in order to get a job at the tanning salon. She said she ultimately sent him nude photos of herself.
She alleges that Farmer created a sexually hostile work environment by making inappropriate comments to her such as “go clean the tanning bed so I can watch you bend over” and “you’ve never had sex until you’ve f**ked an older guy like me.”
The woman claims that she filed a complaint with the police after Farmer groped her in a tanning room. She was fired the following day.
Farmer, who has a history of theft, harassment, and drug convictions, is no longer employed at Islands Tanning.
According to KATU, another former female employee alleges that Islands Tanning president Jon Guyette contributed to the hostile work environment by being “verbally abusive.” She claims that Guyette called people “the b-word.”
