Former Douglas County Chief Deputy Coroner threatens hostile work environment lawsuit

Charles Brining, the former Douglas County Chief Deputy Coroner, has threatened to file a wrongful termination and hostile work environment against the county.

Brining sent a letter to the county earlier this year threatening a lawsuit and making a number of allegations against Coroner Lora Thomas.  Brining claims that Thomas tried to pressure him to engage in political activities.

According to Brining, Thomas also created a hostile work environment that included “intimidation of staff,” inappropriate “anti-gay remarks,” and a “homophobic attitude.”

Brining also accused his boss of improperly using county vehicles.
