A former Oracle employee in Australia won a sexual harassment lawsuit that she filed against the company.
Rebecca Richardson claimed that a coworker subjected her to sexually suggestive comments and that Oracle Australia management did not respond sufficiently to her complaint.
In February, Richardson was awarded $18,000. However, since Richardson previously rejected a settlement offer from Oracle for more than the $18,000 that she was awarded, the judge decided that Richardson is responsible for paying her legal expenses, which exceed $200,000, as well as a significant part of Oracle’s legal expenses.
Australian law makes it difficult to recover legal costs that are incurred after a settlement offer is rejected.
