Lorain County medical director fired for misconduct surrounding sexual harassment complaint

The Lorain County Board of Health voted yesterday to fire Dr. Paul Matus from his position as medical director of the Lorain County General Health District.

The county board based its decision on the findings of an independent investigation into Matus’ alleged misconduct.

The investigation found reasonable cause to believe that Matus made derogatory comments about female county employees and that Matus engaged in misconduct by calling the ex-husband of a former employee who had filed a sexual harassment complaint against Matus.

An investigation last year into the sexual harassment allegations found that Matus’s behavior was not pervasive enough to be considered sexual harassment.

The behavior that caused Matus to be fired occurred after last year’s sexual harassment investigation had been closed.
