Hostile work environment lawsuit filed against Universal Music Publishing Group

A former security guard at the Universal Music Publishing Group has filed a lawsuit against the company alleging a hostile work environment, discrimination, and retaliation.

The female security guard claims that she was fired in retaliation for complaining about rampant drug use at the Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) facility.

The security guard claims that she witnessed drug use or the posession of drug paraphernalia by Macy Gray, MC Ren, rapper T.I.’s entourage, guests of Jamie Foxx, and she alleges that UMPG executives participated in the drug use.

According to the complaint, on one occasion the security guard smelled marijuana in the Universal Music Publishing Group’s recording studio. She complained about the smell to a UMPG manager, who allegedly told her, “It’s Adam Levine. You know from Maroon 5 … He can do whatever he wants … If he wants to come to the lobby and do a line of cocaine on the floor, it’s OK.”

The security guard claims she “found condoms plastered in the men’s bathroom while on patrol. She began witnessing UMPG employees engaged in intimate touching and grinding, involving buttocks and genitalia.”

The security guard alleges she complained to UMPG about this activity and that the operations manager at her security company informed her that he was aware of her complaints and that she was suspended. She claims she was not allowed to work again at Universal Music Publishing Group.
