Cranston police officer files sex discrimination and hostile work environment claim

A female Cranston police lieutenant who alleges she was subjected to sex discrimination and a hostile work environment has filed a notice of claim and demand with the city.

Lt. Karen Guilbeault alleges she was denied training as well as opportunities for promotions because she is a woman.

Her claim names Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, Police Chief Marco Palombo, Majors John Schaffran and Robert Ryan, and Lieutenants Alan Lizella and Russell Henry.

Guilbeault is seeking damages for past and future losses linked to the alleged discrimination. Her claim could lead to a discrimination lawsuit against the city of Cranston.

The city denies Guilbeault’s discrimination and hostile work environment allegations.
