The U.S. Department of Justice announced that the Alabama City of Millbrook has agreed to pay compensatory damages to a former police officer settle a sex discrimination and retaliation lawsuit that was filed against it.
The Justice Department claimes that Millbrook Police Officer Kristen Spraggins was subjected to sexual harassment and was subsequently fired in retaliation for complaining about the harassment.
According to the complaint, Spraggins was subjected to unwanted sexual advances by a coworker. She rejected the sexual advances and complained to her superiors about the harassment.
Spraggins claims that the Millbrook Police Department did not take disciplinary action against the harassing coworker and instead subjected Spraggins to unwarranted disciplinary actions and eventually fired her in retaliation for filing a sexual harassment complaint with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
