The Spud Seller to pay $255,000 to settle EEOC lawsuit accusing bad boss of sexually harassing 10 female employees

The Spud Seller, Inc., a potato wholesaler based outside of Monte Vista, Colorado, has agreed to pay $255,000 to settle an EEOC sexual harassment lawsuit.

The EEOC claimed that a bad boss in the company’s warehouse subjected 10 female employees to repeated sexual harassment.

This boss allegedly created a hostile work environment for the ten female employees by making inappropriate and unwelcome sexual comments to them, groping and touching them, exposing himself to them, and soliciting sexual acts from them over a six year period.

Although the first complaint about the alleged hostile work environment was brought to Spud Seller in 2004, the supervisor was not fired until 2012. The EEOC filed its sexual harassment lawsuit against Spud Seller in September 2009.

EEOC Regional Attorney Mary Jo O’Neill said, “Employers have a responsibility to maintain an environment free of sexual harassment for all workers. Here, a member of management was the harasser and some of the victims were immigrants.”
