Detroit-area Comfort Inn & Suites owner to pay $27,500 to settle EEOC pregnancy discrimination lawsuit

Ramin Inc., the owner of a Comfort Inn & Suites in Taylor, Michigan, has agreed to pay $27,500 to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit that the EEOC had filed against it.

The EEOC claimed that Ramin fired a housekeeper after she told company managers that she was pregnant. According to the EEOC, Ramin management stated it could not allow the employee to continue to work as a housekeeper because the fetus might be potentially harmed.

EEOC Trial Attorney Lauren Gibbs Burstein said, “This is a favorable resolution for everyone. We appreciate that Ramin worked with us to resolve this case before we had to engage in lengthy discovery and litigation proceedings.”
