A settlement conference has been scheduled for April 10 between the parties of the Word of Faith International Christian Center sexual harassment lawsuit.
Jamila Slaughter, a former administrative assistant at the Word of Faith’s Jackson, Mississippi church, filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the Christian center and Bishop Kevin Wright in June 2011.
Slaughter alleged that Wright subjected her to a sexually hostile work environment by making unwanted sexual advances towards her from December 2008 to October 2009.
Slaughter claims that Wright called her into his office and kissed her on the mouth. Despite telling him that his sexual advances were unwelcome, Wright allegedly continued to sexually harass Slaughter on an ongoing basis by touching her and writing her notes.
According to the complaint, “When Slaughter saw that Bishop Wright did not understand the meaning of ‘no,’ and that church officials were not able to put an end to Bishop Wright’s unlawful conduct, she decided to file a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.”
The Word of Faith International Christian Center announced in September 2010 that it had fired Wright because of his “moral failure” and allegations of financial mismanagement.
