A former employee has filed a pregnancy and sex discrimination lawsuit against the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
Carolyn Hommel claims that she was discriminated and retaliated against for being pregnant. Hommel alleges that her job duties and responsibilities were taken away and given to a temporary employee after Hommel was forced to take a two week medical leave because of complications with her pregnancy.
Hommel was laid off a month after giving birth to her daughter. She was told she could apply for a vice president position, but she was not selected for that position.
According to the complaint, Hommel’s boss, Michael Garner, completed a performance review of Hommel during the week following Hommel’s termination. the performance review allegedly contained “fabrications and inaccuracies” about Hommel’s job duties and responsibilities.
