Sussex Correctional Institution national origin discrimination lawsuit

A Hispanic former correctional officer has filed a discrimination lawsuit against Sussex County.

Rene Flores claims that he was discriminated against because of his Hispanic ethnicity by Commissioner Carl Danberg, Prisons Division Bureau Chief Mike DeLoy, Warden G.R. Johnson, and Deputy Warden Linda Valentino.

Flores alleges that he was fired shortly after filing a discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Flores had repeatedly complained about a “good old boy” network that favored mostly white employees for training opportunities, recognition and awards, and career advancement and promotional opportunities.
