MMS Resources, Inc., also known as Merchant Management Systems Inc., has agreed to pay $365,000 to settle an EEOC sexual harassment lawsuit.
The EEOC claims that Brian Pat Reed, the owner and president of MMS, subjected a class of female employees to sexually hostile work environment that included sexual comments, touching and coerced sexual intercourse.
According to the EEOC, Reed also threatened to retaliate against the women by firing them or withholding raises or promotions if they complained about the sexual harassment.
MMS Resources filed for bankruptcy while this EEOC lawsuit was pending.
EEOC district director Webster N. Smith said, “Employees should be free from harassment based upon their gender, and those who complain about such misconduct should not be in fear of losing their jobs.”
