Fairfax County agreed in March to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit that former female firefighter Mary Getts Bland had filed against the county. Last year, a jury had awarded Bland $250,000. Fairfax County appealed the award, and the judge reduced the amount to $50,000.
Bland claimed that she was subjected to repeated sexual harassment by Lt. Timothy D. Young. Young allegedly asked Bland inappropriate sexual questions during her recruitment interview. For example, Bland claims that Young asked her if she enjoyed being watched while she had sex and while she masturbated, and he allegedly asked her if she liked to have sex with more than one partner at the same time.
Young was also accused of making sexually harassing comments to Bland during the duration of her employment with the Fairfax County Fire Department.
Washington DC attorneys David H. Shapiro and Ellen K. Renaud from the law firm Swick & Shapiro, P.C. represented Bland in her sexual harassment lawsuit against Fairfax County.
