Big Lots EEOC sexual harassment lawsuit

Big Lots Stores has agreed to pay $155,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

According to the EEOC, the manager of the Fort Smith store in Arkansas subjected a class of female employees to sexual harassment that included sexually offensive comments and requests for sexual favors.

After one of the female employees reported the sexual harassment, Big Lots allegedly failed to take appropriate actions necessary to protect the workers from being sexually harassed.

Regional Attorney Faye Williams of the EEOC’s Memphis District Office said, “Employers must realize that merely having and disseminating an anti-harassment policy is insufficient to satisfy Title VII requirements — the policy must be enforced.”
