New Jersey Transit has agreed to pay 10 police officers $5.8 million to settle a race discrimination lawsuit.
The officers alleged that former chief Joseph Bober addressed them with racial slurs and refused to shake hands with one African American officer during a promotion ceremony.
Bober was ousted as NJ Transit Police Chief in 2009 after a jury found he had retaliated against a female officer who complained of sexual discrimination. The jury awarded her $1.5 million.
