NJ city official accused of forcing typist to have sex with him in order to keep her job

Marcella Sbarbaro, a senior clerk typist at New Jersey’s Hackensack municipality, has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the city.

Sbarbaro claims that her boss, Joseph Mellone, created a hostile work environment by sexually harassing her and forcing Sbarbaro “to engage in sexual intercourse with him under the threat of losing her job.”

According to the complaint, Sbarbaro complained about the sexual harassment to City Manager Stephen LoIacono, but “LoIacono took no action to investigate and/or remedy” her complaints.

Sbarbaro also claims that she complained to Art Koster, the Hackenstack personnel director, about Mellone’s alleged harassment, but that Koster didn’t take her allegations seriously.  Furthermore, Sbarbaro was allegedly suspended for “insubordination” two days after she met with Koster.
