Patricia Martone, a former partner at Ropes & Gray, has filed an age and sex discrimination lawsuit against the law firm. Martone alleges that Ropes & Gray “first exploited her expertise and relationships with clients, then reassigned her responsibilities and clients to younger, male partners and fired Martone.”
According to the complaint, William McCabe, Hiroyuki Hagiwara, “and at least one other younger, male partner continued to undermine Martone’s efforts to develop business, communicate with clients, and travel to Japan. Martone passed updated concerns about these more recent discriminatory actions to Diane Patrick [the Firm’s partner responsible for diversity], but the conduct of Martone’s partners did not change.”
In October, Martone claims that she was fired by Managing Partner John Montgomery and Chairman R. Bradford Malt in retaliation after the firm investigated a “written complaint of sex and age discrimination” that she wrote to Montgomery and Malt in June.
