Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department pays $850,000 to settle sexual harassment lawsuit

New Jersey’s Middlesex County has agreed to pay $850,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit that was filed by five female sheriff’s officers.

Laury Hamilton, Eileen Mazzei, Gail Decibus-Cuffe, Janet Martinez, and Donna Karlson claimed that they were subjected to sexually vulgar comments and sexual propositions by bosses at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Joseph Spicuzzo, Undersheriff Angelo Falcone, and Sgt. Bruce Allen were named in the lawsuit. 

More recently, on Monday, New Jersey Attorney General Paula Dow accused Spicuzzo of selling jobs and promotions at the sheriff’s department in what she called “outrageous case of abuse of public office.”
