Appeals court rules Courtyard by Marriott Gaithersburg Lakeforest sexual harassment lawsuit can proceed

The Maryland Court of Appeals has ruled that a lawsuit against Ruffin Hotel Corporation alleging sexual harassment, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, and negligent hiring and retention can proceed.

In the original complaint, Kathleen Gasper, the former Assistant General Manager at the Courtyard by Marriott Gaithersburg-Lakeforest hotel, had accused Front Desk Manager James Bridges of grabbing her, pinning her against the wall and kissing her twice.

Gasper alleges that she complained to General Manager Imran Ahmed about Bridges’ sexual harassment, but that Ahmed told her that he “planned to do nothing about her complaint of sexual harassment because Mr. Bridges had denied the inappropriate conduct.”  According to the lawsuit, Ahmed “discouraged her from making further complaints and threatened her with termination.”

After Gasper a criminal complaint for sexual assault against James Bridges and filed a complaint with Ahmed’s superior, Bill Shea, Ahmed fired Gasper.
