Sam Hall, a homosexual coal miner, filed a lawsuit last month against Massey Energy Co. subsidiary Spartan Mining Co.
Hall claims that coworkers and supervisors, including foreman Randy Thomas, superintendent Scott Lansenese, and chief electrician Mark Delung, subjected him to verbal abuse and harassment because of his sexual orientation.
According to the complaint, superintendent Carl Lucas did nothing to stop the abuse. Hall alleges that he eventually met with Spartan Mining Co. president John Jones, vice president Larry Ward, and human resources director Kyle Bane.
After the three executives allegedly promised to take care of the hostile work environment, Thomas was suspended for three days and Hall was transferred to another mine where he continues to suffer from harassment.
