Settlement reached in North Hunterdon-Voorhees School District sexual harassment lawsuit

North Hunterdon-Voorhees School District has agreed to pay $302,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit that was filed by two former female school bus drivers.

Bonnie Haydu and Bernice Rude claimed that they were sexually harassed by Donald Hockenberry, a coworker who allegedly repeatedly asked Haydu and Rude about their sex lives, grabbed Haydu’s buttocks and legs on multiple occasions, and invited Haydu to watch pornographic movies at his house.

The women also claim that their complaints to the district’s transportation coordinator, Gerald Oram, and affirmative action officer, Ann Marie Rose, did not help end the harassment.

According to the Hunterdon County Democrat, the women’s attorney said  that “Oram and Rose were ‘intentionally indifferent,’ to their complaints. ‘Nothing was done.’  Hockenberry wasn’t disciplined, suspended or sent to any training. ‘It was business as usual. They felt their complaints had fallen on deaf ears.'”
