Cactus Grill pays $150,000 to settle EEOC sexual harassment lawsuit

After being sued by the EEOC for sexual harassment, the owner of Leawood, Kansas-based Cactus Grill has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle the suit.

The EEOC claimed that an assistant manager sexually harassed Amanda Heschmeyer, an 18-year-old server, by making unwelcome sexual advances, touching her, and asking her for sex.  The EEOC said that this was not the first time a sexual harassment complaint had been filed against this assistant manager.

According to the Kansas City Star, Tom Nance, the CEO of Northstar Restaurants Inc., the company that operates the Cactus Grill, released a statement saying, “We settled for an amount that made sense for everyone.  Spread out over the next two years, the amount made sense for the company, and it provided something for the young woman, who experienced inappropriate conduct.”
