After the New York Times’ critical report last week about an alleged hostile work environment at the Tribune Company, Tribune’s chief innovation officer, Lee Abrams has been suspended indefinitely for sending an email to employees that included links to inappropriate material.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “Mr. Abrams’ memo linked to a fake news segment from The Onion depicting a crash of a VH1 reality-TV bus that caused the spilling of ‘more than 2,000 pounds of slut.’ Mr. Abrams quickly apologized, writing in a note to employees that the video was intended as an example of what the newspaper and television company should not do.”
In a memo to employees, Tribune Co. CEO Randy Michaels quickly apologized for Abrams’ email and said that “Lee recognizes that the video was in extremely bad taste and that it offended employees. But, this is the kind of serious mistake that can’t be tolerated; we intend to address it promptly and forcefully.”
