Plaintiff appeals jury decision in Jackson Public Schools sexual harassment case

Sonia Harris Carter, who sued Jackson Public Schools for sexual harassment, is appealing the jury’s decision that Carter didn’t prove her case against JPS security chief John Coleman.

Carter claims that one of the jurors failed to reveal that she is the sister of a lawyer who is “close friends” with a JPS staff attorney and who previously worked with an attorney working for JPS on the case.

According to the Clarion Ledger, “Carter alleged in her original lawsuit that as early as 2002 and through 2005, Coleman subjected her to continuous “sexually derogatory and offensive language and conduct.”

Another former female JPS employee has also filed a federal lawsuit against Coleman.
