A Michigan jury ordered Consumers Energy to pay $8 million in damages to former employee Theresa Waldo for being subjected to years of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, a hostile work environment, and retaliation.
Court documents stated that Waldo faced an “abusive and dysfunctional environment,” where she was “bombarded with sexually abusive and derogatory language and conduct,” subjected to photos of naked women, forced to urinate “like the men” working in the field and given demeaning jobs.
Consumers Energy spokesman Jeff Holyfield said, “Consumers Energy is disappointed by the jury’s decision and plans to seek to have it set aside and, if necessary, appeal this verdict.”
