Fired Ulster RRA executive director accused of sexual harassment and workplace bullying

The board of New York’s Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency has fired director Michael Bemis after employee complaints of sexual harassment and a “toxic work environment.”

According to the Daily Freeman:

RRA Operations Manager Charlie Whitaker told board members [an] employee had been harassed repeatedly and that Bemis had “humiliated him day in and day out.”

The RRA board also was told of ongoing sexual harassment by Bemis of a female employee.  Board members were told Bemis commented about her being attractive and often blocked her path out of the facility’s kitchen area or from an office area. She added that he would stand in position to look at her chest, would reach for office items in front of her, asked to touch her hair and acted inappropriately when the two were driving together on agency business.
