Female Oregon judge resigns after being accused of sexual harassment

Justice of the Peace Cynthia Sinclair from the Central Lane Justice Court in Springfield, Oregon, resigned last April after a three-month internal investigation found that she subjected female employees to unwelcome sexual comments and made racially offensive comments.

According to KATU.com, the sexual harassment complaints included the following:

•Complaints Sinclair talked about sex toys at work and told another employee she should get one.
•Employees alleged Sinclair made derogatory comments, drew an inappropriate picture and wrote a “sexual and offensive” poem or song about one employee’s sex life.
•Employees said Sinclair made offensive comments during one person’s pregnancy, including saying “You wouldn’t know you were pregnant except your boobs are huge!” and “I bet your husband is enjoying those!”

In July, a clerk who worked under Sinclair, Heather Hendrickson, filed a $420,000 sexual harassment lawsuit against Lane County this summer.  Hendrickson claims she suffered emotional distress when the county failed to act promptly on her complaints about Sinclair’s behavior.
