Sexual harassment investigation leads to demotion of Navy ship commander

The Navy has announced that Cmdr. Fred Wilhelm, the commanding officer of the amphibious dock landing ship Gunston Hall was relieved of duty after an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, simple assault and conduct unbecoming an officer.

According to The Virginian-Pilot, “The incidents occurred both on and off duty during the ship’s recent six-month deployment off western Africa and the Mediterranean, which included four weeks assisting relief efforts after the Haiti earthquake.”

Wilhelm has been reassigned to administrative duties.
