The EEOC announced that Affordable Care, Inc., a national denture provider with a network of over 150 affiliated dentists, has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a sexual harassment and race discrimination lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed after two female employees complained to the EEOC about being harassed by Nelson Wood, a dentist affiliated with Affordable Care.
Wood was accused of referring to women as “whining bitches,” propositioning one of the women for sex, and spanking the other woman repeatedly on the buttocks. The women, one of whom is black, also alleged that Nelson Wood made derogatory remarks about blacks and claimed that he had a relative who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
Both women repeatedly complained to Affordable Care about the workplace bullying, but the company failed to stop the harassment. The EEOC also charged that one of the women was fired in retaliation for her complaints, and that the other woman was forced to quit because of Wood’s abusive behavior.
