Waiter sues Ritz-Carlton for discrimination after being prevented from serving racist guests

A black waiter who has worked at the Ritz-Carlton beach resort in Naples, Florida for 15 years is suing the hotel and its vice president for employment discrimination after he was told not to serve guests who had requested “not to be served by ‘people of color’ or with ‘foreign accents.'”

A guest named Rodney Morgan, who checked in to the Ritz-Carlton on February 28, 2010, told vice president and managing director Edward Staros that he did not want to be served by “people of color.”  Staros entered this request into the hotel’s computer system and noted that, “…as per Mr. Staros this couple is very very prejudice [sic] and do like like [sic] ppl of color or foreign accents.”

When Wadner Tranchant, who is originally from Haiti, began serving the Morgans on March 12, 2010 at the hotel’s The Grill restaurant, he was prevented by his supervisors from continuing to serve these customers.
