The Bellevue City Schools board of education in Ohio voted to fire superintendent William “Bud” Martin in February 2010 for violating the school board’s regulations. Last year, Martin and his assistant, Darrell Hykes, were accused of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment for female employees.
Bellevue Schools attorney Ken Stumphauzer said, “The atmosphere at central office became so pervasive, so negative, so intimidating that these women took actions to protect themselves to make sure they were never in his presence by themselves.”
Employees accused Hykes of openly discussing his sex life at the office and suggested that a number of female employees should attend a “wet t-shirt contest.”
Martin allegedly called an employee at her home last November and told her “I just need to hear your voice.”
In addition, Martin faces five misdemeanor counts of falsification in Bellevue Municipal Court for allegedly falsifying mileage reimbursement forms for more than $900 while he was superintendent.
