Assistant Finance Director Melissa Moore said that someone poured oil on her office chair on January 7, 2010. She also filed a complaint with the Fort Pierce Police Department after discovering that her work computer and her personal email account had been hacked into. The police confiscated her computer and are currently investigating the incident.
Moore had reported evidence of corruption at city hall that included an allegation that her boss, Finance Director Gloria Johnson, had funneled $33,970 of state funds to her daughter, Ursula.
In response to Moore’s whistleblowing allegations, City Manager David Recor hired an outside firm to conduct a forensic audit of the Community Services Department. The audit called the department a “corrupt organization” that gave preferential treatment and federal and state housing money to employees and their friends and relatives.
