The New Jersey state Attorney General’s Office announced that a racial discrimination complaint filed by Carl Carpenter against his former employer, CBM Construction, has probable cause and can proceed to either a settlement or to a trial if no agreement is reached between the parties.
Carpenter accused CBM Construction, based in Burlington County, NJ, and his then supervisor, Vincent Milio, of making racially offensive remarks about Carpenter, who is black, and of creating a racially hostile work environment.
Carpenter complained to CBM’s general manager about the alleged harassment in July 2008, and he was subsequently fired a month later in retaliation for complaining.
